4th Annual China Airport Development and Operation Excellence Summit 2009

BEIJING, China, 14-15 May 2009 – In addition to being a hub for transportation, airports also attract business opportunities and development for the surrounding region enabling access to enterprising professionals, goods, and services with the airport at its center. The 4th Annual China Airport Development and Operations Excellence Summit 2009 attracted top-tier executives in the aviation industry to expand knowledge and share expertise.

The summit took place 14-15 May 2009 at the Commune by the Great Wall Kempinski in Beijing. Bill Matz, Managing Director at The S-A-P Group served as chairman as well as speaker of the summit. Keynote speaker Lu Jianheng, Head of Planning Division of the Department of Planning Development of CAAC, presented the promotion of constructing airports in China and the facilitation of the development of China's civil aviation industry. Themes the summit covered entailed increasing external revenue, airport development and planning, and establishing sustainable strategic partnerships.

Zhu Jiangyuan , Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Construction Headquarter of Airport Expansion of Beijing Capital Airport and representing the biggest airport group in China, introduced updates of the construction of a second international airport in Beijing. The challenges and progress presented demonstrate the rapid evolution of Beijing as an international air hub.

Chinese airports are eager to explore and expand on growing trends in non-aeronautical revenue. Deputy Chief Executive Oliver Cussen of Dublin Airport Authority and Director of Concessions John Cugasi of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport represent international airports successful in airport operation. They shared their cutting-edge views and experience in creating non-aeronautical revenue.

Other notable speakers included Desmond Shum, Vice Chairman and CEO of Airport City Development Co., Ltd. Discussing the concept of an “aerotropolis” in Beijing. Section Chief, Civil Aviation Section, of the Transportation Department in China International Engineering Consulting Corporation analyzed growth laws of China civil airport capacity.
