4th China Advanced Coal Chemical Summit 2009

BAOTOU, Inner Mongolia, China, 10-11 June 2009 – Oscillating oil prices in a turbulent economy present unprecedented challenges and opportunities for China to manage risk and become a strategic player in the competitive coal chemical market.
The 4th China Advanced Coal Chemical Summit was held 10-11 June 2009 at Shangri-La Hotel by Noppen and co-organized with People’s Government of Baotou City in Inner Mongolia. Baotou Mayor Hu Erzha opened the summit that covered the current situation and future planning and trends for coal chemical, application of gasification technologies, water re-use and treatment, and carbon emissions technologies.
Zhu Ping, Vice President of China Shenhua Coal to Liquid and Chemical Company and General Manager of Shenhua Baotou Coal Chemical Corporation, whose company represents the top coal chemical project owner in China, presented a case study on the Shenhua coal-based olefin project. He also discussed the project progress and planning of Shenhua Group.
Coal-to-liquid is a growing business in the new alternative energy sector, which is not related to high energy costs, investments, and technology. With the instability of oil prices, Deputy General Manager of Yitai CTL, Jiang Jianshen, demonstrated that CTL technology is an efficient way to transfer energy. Serge Perineau, President of World CTL Association, also spoke on the global CTL industry outlook and the impact of the present economic situation.
Xinjiang is considered having the most potential for coal chemical project investment as supported by Yan Kuang Xinjiang Energy Chemical Co., Ltd, which has invested considerable capital into the region. General Manager Xie Shusheng introduced the development of coal chemical business in Xinjiang as well as the progress and planning of new Yan Kuang projects.
Other speakers included Blake Margison, Affairs Representative of the International Energy Conservation Environment Protection Association, on sustainable development strategy and Li Guiping, Deputy Chief Engineer with Dasmart Environmental Technologies (Beijing) Co., Ltd.
A pre-event dinner hosted by the Baotou government was held for attendees to highlight Mongolian culture and hospitality. Following the summit, attendees had the opportunity to view projects on site to Shenhua Baotou Chemical, Xinao Group, and Yili Chemical. Attendees praised the summit as extremely well-organized and an impressive opportunity to understand growing industry trends.
