Noppen – after successes of Solar Energy Events in India and China– organized the Solar Energy Summit in Istanbul on 24th&25th May 2012. The Summit was attended by 60 key market players.
Chairmen of the event were Engin Türe from GENSED and Ciprian Glodeanu, President from RPIA.
The opening speech at the summit was given by Engin Türe from Gensed. He opened the conference with a very informative presentation about the status of Turkey’s Solar Energy. Following him was Mete Şen, Vice Chairman of the World Energy Council who gave a detailed presentation about the solar energy status in Turkey. Şaban Demir, a renewable energy expert from EPDK continued with government initiatives, news and updates about the solar market in Turkey. Özgür Sarpdağ, business development manager of Else Energy based himself on his own experiences to elaborate on the latest developments of the solar market. The agenda progressed with İbrahim Erden, business development manager of EnerjiSa, who talked about the toughest challenges and solutions, you can expect from the solar energy market. Day one`s Turkish Market topics closed with a focus on the successful partnership between Gehrlicher and Merk Solar presented by Ömer Cihan Karahan, general manager of Gehrlicher Merk Solar.
From a regional point of view Alexander Zachariou, president of Helapco, informed us about how the government supports the solar energy industry in Greece and a brief view about the important solar projects going on there. Ciprian Glodeanu, president from RPIA, explained the solar energy situation in Romania and what will happen in the future. He also briefed the audience on the procedures and incentives. The last regional point of view on day one was from Wolfram Rehbock, senior partner from Arzinger, bringing insights in Ukraine`s legal framework for the energy sector.

The last session on Thursday was a panel about expectations in the region for solar energy: Ciprian Glodeanu from RPIA, Şaban Demir from EPDK and Özgür Sarpdağ from Else Enerji discussed the benefits of the market, the position of the government, obstacles and challenges and how to overcome them when wanting to enter the solar energy market in Turkey. The discussion was moderated by Engin Türe from Gensed.
On Friday the conference started with financial topics: finance and risk insights were brought by Ömer Demirhan, manager of business modeling and investment advisory from KPMG, Andi Aranitasi, banker of power & energy utilities from EBRD and last but not least TanerIşık, country manager of Turkey from Atradius. Ömer Emre Orhan, the mechanical engineer from Fichtner gave a highly appreciated presentation about technologies and feasibility examples in Turkey. He was followed by Derek Tomasi, associate from Ost Energy, who discussed solar plant appraisals in emerging markets. Two valuable case studies closed the presentation sessions, one from Alex Cosmetatos, technical director from NurEnergie, who showcased his experiences in a CSP Project in Crete and the other one from Anis Kenida, a project manager in the international business development department at Abengoa Solar, who presented innovative technology solutions for sustainability in their projects.
Noppen closed the event by having a discussion panel with Alex Cosmetatos from NurEnergie, Anis Kenida from Abengoa Solar, Mehmet Kapusuz from EnerjiSa, and Derek Tomasi from Ost Energy and was governed by Ciprian Glodeanu from RPIA. They discussed how to successfully operate solar projects in the region.
