India Wind Energy Summit 2012

India Wind Energy Summit 2012 featured the most prominent industry leaders and government officials from across the globe providing informative and inspiring discussions pertaining to India’s current needs and their ambitious future. Mr. Anmol Singh Jaggi, the Director for Gensol Consultants served as the chairman over both days of the conference.
One of the eminent speakers on Day 1, Mr. Ravindra Utgikar, Head-Corporate Marketing for Suzlon Energy, spoke about solutions for harnessing low wind sites in India. His presentation dealt with innovations in turbines and insights from allied technologies in providing solutions to harness low wind sites. He ended his presentation with a brief introduction of the Suzlon group and its various projects. His presentation was well received by the various delegates.
Also on Day 1, Mr. G.N. Kamath, MD, Karma Energy Ltd. spoke about the challenges and opportunities for wind energy in India. His presentation dealt with risk assessment, revenue options, preferential tariff mechanisms, REC mechanism process flow and pros and cons of the REC process. His presentation ended with a viability analysis for the various projects across various states in India.
Another eminent speaker on the morning of Day 1, Mr. Morgan Troedsson, Product Manager, Force Technology, introduced the delegates to the innovations from Force Technologies. His presentation was eagerly anticipated by the delegates, and was very interactive, as he explained the various products his company had on offer for wind turbine manufacturers.
The first speaker post lunch on Day 1 was Mr. C.T Velu, Vice President, Lanco Wind Power Pvt. Ltd. He spoke about technological and operational challenges in the wind energy industry. His presentation dealt with the fact, that while wind energy is fast growing in India, there are several constraints that needed to be recognized and resolved before it could achieve full capacity.
The chariman, Mr. Anmol Singh Jaggi, then took the stage and presented a comparative analysis of wind power across the Indian states. His presentation focused in detail on the various projects and the pros and cons of wind power across various states in India. He also touched upon the key barriers to harnessing wind energy in India, including scheduling & banking, payment security and inadequate grid connectivity and grid infrastructure.
The final speaker on Day 1, Mr. Ion Garmendia of the Danobat Group introduced his company to the delegates. His presentation dealt with a brief history of the Danobat Group, the existing facilities and the expansion plans of the company. He also touched upon the various products that the Danobat Group had to offer the wind energy sector in India.
The first speaker of Day 2, Dr. A Jagdeesh, a renowned wind energy expert and Head of the Centre for Energy and Sustainable Resources spoke about the prospects for wind farm co-operatives and offshore wind farms in India. In his presentation, he briefly introduced wind turbine co-operatives, community wind farms and spoke about the advantages of community participation in windmills, quoting the example of the TvindMill in Denmark. His presentation also dealt with the need for offshore wind farms in India, the advantages of adopting such a system and the challenges, which would have to be overcome. He ended his presentation by presenting an overview on the top 25 offshore wind farms, while introducing the top 10 farms under construction.
Another eminent speaker on Day 2, Mr. K.V.S. Subhramanyam, Vice President, Power for MSPL Ltd. Spoke about the future developments of wind energy in India. His presentation dealt with the key factors responsible for the growth of wind power, government incentives, investment opportunities and challenges that needed to be resolved before expansion.
Also on Day 2, Mr. Jorg Birkenstock of the DEMAG Group, introduced his company to the delegates. His presentation dealt with the various products, which DEMAG has on offer for the wind energy sector, a brief note on the company, its global presence and its expansion plans. He ended his presentation by highlighting the various wind energy projects that DEMAG has been associated with in the past.
Another eminent speaker on Day 2, Ms. Paramita Sahoo of the Welspun Group spoke about the challenges faced by developers in the Indian wind industry. She spoke about scarcity of sites, inadequate infrastructure in remote and complex terrains, regulatory and funding challenges and trade and market barriers for renewable energy. While she spoke about the challenges, she also proposed a few mitigation measures in order to resolve these challenges and spoke about how the Welspun Group is overcoming these challenges currently. This presentation was well-received by the delegates.
The last speaker on Day 2, Dr. S. Gomathinayagam, Executive Director, Centre for Wind Energy Technology, spoke about the technological advances in the wind energy industry. His presentation introduced the various projects that CWET is working on and the data that they have currently collected about the effectiveness of the various wind projects across India.
