3rd Annual China LNG Terminal Summit 2011

SHANGHAI, CHINA, 13-14 JANUARY 2011 – China's natural gas industry has entered the "golden" period of development. According to China's LNG Usage Plan, demand for natural gas will reach 300 billion cubic meters while LNG production capacity will reach 240 billion cubic meters by 2020. In the next 10-20 years, LNG will become the main force in China's natural gas market. Currently China has approved more than 10 LNG Terminal Projects and there are more than 20 under construction or in the planning stage.

Supported by Shanghai Lingang Economic Development (Group) Co. Ltd, the 3rd Annual China LNG Terminal Summit 2011 focused on the state of China's ongoing LNG projects as well as their equipment and service needs. With over 110 attendees the event included major gas companies, power companies, and energy groups across China who came together to discuss the development of the most advanced technology and to find the best solution providers.

Yin Zhen, Deputy Director of the Transportation Planning Research Department, Institute for Comprehensive Transportation of the NDRC opened the event on day one with a discussion on the needs and demands of China's natural gas and an analysis on the current transportation situation of natural gas. Following this Yang Hulin, Director, Oil and Gas Resources Strategic Research Center, Ministry of Land and Resources, gave a detailed presentation on China's natural gas resources and the development trend of China's natural gas from the governments perspective. Xia Yishan, Director, Strategy Research Center, China Institute of International Studies spoke about international cooperation for China's natural gas including the expansion of unconventional gas exploration, an increase in the construction of natural gas pipeline and the construction of LNG terminal and LNG peak-shaving stations. Key speakers at the event included Huang Qun, LNG Chief Engineer, Technology Center, CNOOC Oil & Gas Group Co., Ltd. CNOOC owns most LNG terminals in China, therefore Huang's presentation showed accurately the future trends of LNG terminal development. She also discussed floating LNG terminals; their main systems, characteristics, and associated conditions; and her own suggestions on the construction of floating LNG terminals in China. One of the most popular speakers at the conference was Guo Zonghua, President, Gas Design Institute of Shanxi Province who discussed safety systems in LNG Plants. He stated how hazard assessments are needed through the whole process of an LNG project, including the site selection, design, procurement, construction and operation. Aziz Bamik, Business Development Director, GTT spoke about GTT membrane technology for on-shore tanks. Most on-shore LNG tanks use GTT membrane, so his technology sharing created a lot of interest among delegates. Mr. Bamik also presented on some best practices and case studies of GTT membrane application in different regions including China. Xu Zhengkang, Consultant for the China Gas Association and the NDRC made a presentation on the governments'future LNG storage peak-shaving measures which are adopted to ease and solve the problem of urban gas supply security. Up-to-date technology information was introduced by Ebara. Ebara's cryogenic expanders remove energy from the LNG stream by the power transmission of static pressure energy to kinetic fluid energy to rotating shaft power to electrical power. Energy in the form of electrical power is removed from the LNG by connecting it to the electrical power net of the plant. Steve Rush, Director of Sales, spoke about "Submerged Motor Pumps for LNG Receiving Terminals" and Hans E. Kimmel, Executive Director for R&D discussed how"Cryogenic Expanders Increase the Overall Efficiency of LNG Liquefaction and Regasification Plants" . Lao Seng, General Manager, AIG Industry presented on their safe and environmental pipeline technologies and from the Asia Pacific Natural Gas Vehicles Association, Vice President, Brenda Smith, covered the development of global natural gas vehicles and the principle use of LNG as a vehicle fuel LCNG. Other notable speakers included Zhuang Jinrong, Director of the Gas Department for Guangdong Oil &Gas Association; and Feng Xiaoting, Chief Adviser for the China National Chemical Economic & Technical Development Center, China Chemical Industry Productivity Centre who both spoke on the current status and development trends of China's LNG market; and Wu Changchun, from Xinjiang Guanghui Industry Co., Ltd presented on LNG terminal peak-shaving and utilization of LNG cold energy. Onsite speakers and delegates discussed new technology applications in their local LNG terminals, made full use of each Q&A session and used the tea breaks to network with domestic and international industry leaders and advanced equipment providers.
