SAHNGHAI, CHINA, 20th – 21st JUNE, 2013:
Noppen hosted their 4th Annual China Hotel and Resort Summit on 20th -21st June, 2013 in Shanghai, China. In order to build on the ideas of development and co-operation, this forum brought together the world’s prominent industry leaders and government officials to discuss the development of the Chinese hotel and resort industry, investment opportunities and challenges whilst simultaneously providing a platform to listen to various industry experts and find the best solutions.
Mr. YANG Honghao, Associate Research Fellow, Deputy Chief of the Institute of Tourism Industry and Enterprise Development, China Tourism Academy; opened the two day summit by speaking on the Development Opportunities and Innovative Trends of China Hotel Industry. He listed new opportunities of development and the driving force of innovation and its three ways of doing so Business Innovation, Model Innovation and Hotel Product Innovation. Another presenter Ms. Fiona HE, Business Development Manager, STR Global China spoke on ‘Hotel Market Overview China’. She explained the China Hotel Market and trend and later analyzed the data and trend of Asia Pacific Main countries. She concluded her presentation with focus on future supply of China market where it is expected that supply will grow by 17% in next five years in China and in the next five years, China will open 911 new hotels.
Next, Mr. Olivier HORPS, Club Med CEO Greater China presented on ways and opportunities for creating a successful destination resort. Club Med is the biggest international resort group and boasts of a very interesting business model: Creation of all-inclusive. Mr. Jackie ZANG, General Manager, China Merchant Property Development Co Ltd, Meillen Hotel Management spoke on ‘The Development of Boutique Resort from the Developer’s Perspective’. He highlighted three points: internal property of commercial property, hotel division of China Merchant Property Development and certain aspects to be taken care of while property developers develop a hotel.
Day Two began with Mr. Adam G RUSH, Director of Consulting Department North Asia, Head of Tourism, DTZ. He talked on ‘who is adding value to who? Integrating hotels in mixed use developments’. He shared some problems faced during the development such as different perceptions of value from hotel operators and investor builders. Next, Mr. XIA Guoyue, Corporate Development GM, Powerlong Real Estate Holdings Limited spoke on ‘Hotel Investment under the Situation of Commercial Property’ where he showed us the position and value of hotel in commercial property, positioning and investment control of hotel and the relationship between the development of a hotel and a mixed-use development. He also spoke on the problems that usually one encounters during developing hotels in second and third tier cities.
Mr. PING Fang, GM of Hotel Management Center, Hebei Zhuoda Group spoke on ‘The Necessity of the Preliminary Work of the Hotel’ goes to. He also explained the process of developing a hotel, preliminary work, planning, positioning and ROI analyzing. Next, Mr. ZOU Yimin, Director of the Institute of Hospitality Management of Zhejiang University, Vice President of New Century Tourism Group and he spoke on ‘Labor Shortage, China’s Way Out’, a hot topic right now in the hotel industry. He presented four major points: labor shortage, the total quality going down, lacking good management talents and loss of labors.
Mr. Tommy WANG, Managing Director, Delta Faucet (China) Co Ltd, gave a speech on ‘A Better Way to Live with Water’. He introduced the Delta Faucet Co. Ltd. a global leader of manufacturing plumbing products. He focused on current projects and Delta’s technology; he ended his presentation with their new brand BRIZO. Guest Facing Hotel Service Solutions was presented by Mr. Jonny ZHU, CEO, iRiS Software Systems Limited (UK) and Titan Info-System (Shanghai) Co Ltd. His speech was about Live Product Design, iRiS Company profile, products as well as case studies. Next, Ms. Cassie ZHANG from GSN School & Wellness System Executive, Technogym spoke on Wellness Cloud, the New Era for Hotel Club Management. Technogym showed audience their gym in Marriott Honqiao. Cassie also introduced their company, positioning and partnerships and spoke about their Strategy is Wellness everywhere, everyday: Wellness on the Go. Their approach is to engage guests with an unforgettable wellness experience at any moment of their stay. At last, she explained Technogym business solutions, Wellness Space, Wellness Spa, Wellness Lounge and Wellness Suite.
Partner, Honeywell Total Solutions for Hotels (Friendly, Efficient and Green) was presented by Mr. Kevin XUE, BCS Product Marketing Leader, Environmental & Combustion Controls, Asia Pacific, Honeywell. Their total hotel solutions include Customer Experiences Enhancement, Hotel Operation Efficiency and Energy Conservation & Green. He explained the whole solution to the audience including Guest Room Control Solutions, Energy Management System, and Lighting Control & User Interface. XIE Yongbing, President, Shanghai Yongjia Light and Sound Organization, gave a presentation about Experiences on Hotel Consulting Services and a background on the company. Yongjia sound and light project Co Ltd provides project integration and maintenance service in the field of sound, light and electric. He highlighted the future of hotel AV design, Digital signage system, and the future of hotel acoustics design.
Luxury Hotel Linen Purchasing Guideline & Profession Hotel Laundry –Worldwide Recognized Service and Products presented by Ms. Rachel HUANG, China Managing Director of Hohenstein Institute, introduced the accreditations & certifications of Hohenstein Institute. She explained to the audience how to choose the right hotel linen and uniforms, suitability for rental services, and quality check of purchasing linen.
Other noteworthy mentions are the two panel discussions during the conference. First panel discussion was on ‘Find a Way out in the Competitive Market’ where the moderator was Ms. Lily NG, Asia President, Caesars Global Living Asia. The panelists were Don LI, Chief Executive, Swiss International Hotels & Resorts (China), Tommy LAI, VP of Development, ONYX North Asia, Cetin SEKERCIOGLU, Executive Vice President, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Edward CHAN, Senior Vice President Development, Interstate Hotels and Resorts. The second panel discussion was on ‘Future of Hospitality Development in China: What is Next?’ The moderator was Andreas FLAIG, Managing Director, China, Head of Advisory, Asia, Jones Lang Lasalle Hotels & Hospitality Group and the panelists were James WEI, Director of Development, Greater China, Hilton Worldwide, Gavin YU, Vice President Development Greater China, Marriott International and ZHANG Jingbang, President, Prima Hotels Group.
