Cloud Computing in Financial Institutions 2013

On March 13th-15th at the Howard Johnson New Port Resort Hotel in Haikou, Hainan Province, China Noppen hosted Cloud Computing in Financial Institutions 2013 Summit. As the financial industry’s business volume increases, so does their financial information and data intake. The growth in financial information is unprecedented, so the Financial Institutes have to heighten their requirements for data storage capacity, safety and reliability.”Private Cloud” platform stores all of the information in the data controlling center, they add multi-layer security mechanisms and data disaster recovery systems to ensure the safe and stable operation of financial institutions, which allow them to control risks. With the development and improvement of clouding computer technology and service mode, it has been used more widely in banking institutions.

Some of the most influential day-one presenters at the Financial Data Center Conference were Benton GONG，COO，HSBC Bank (China) Company Limited; gave a presentation about HSBC’s green data center introduction and showcased HSBC’s understanding of Green, which is focusing on unified process, management thinking, long-term plan, rational planning, distribution on demand and resources sharing, optimized resources and technical innobations. Another influential presentation was on“Ping An Bank’s Construction of Core Business System” by Mr. WAN Lei, GM, Technology & System Development Department 7, Pingan Bank; he emphasized the significance of the Ping An Bank’s core business system project. He showed IT application of architecture and planning as well as the construction of a new core system. The successful implementation of the new core system breaks through the capacity limitation of original 400 system and hence reserves enough space for business expansion in the future.

Day two of the conference started by Mr. ZHAN Hao，Director of Technology Department, Financial Information Center, The People’s Bank of China; he discussed the disaster recovery reflections and practices of financial information system based on the informatization of Central Bank. He emphasized that disaster backup system is the life line for the financial sector. The security of financial information is the cornerstone for the national financial security and disaster backup system is the last line of defense for the financial information security. Then he showed the disaster recovery development of the financial industry and the changes influenced by cloud computing. People’s bank now is focusing on current points: information system disaster recovery layout planning of People’s Bank; Active-active/multi-center mode disaster recovery construction; research on banking disaster backup system layout; disaster recovery planning and implementation of key system.

MAO Yuxing is the Deputy General Manager of IT Department, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China introduced the application of Cloud Computing in commercial banks. He also shared the case study of cloud computing application of Commercial Bank of China.

Next up was LIN Rong, Director of Information Center (Shanghai), Bank of China, who presented on the research and application of Cloud Technology in data center construction. During her presentation, she emphasized that banks should enhance the environment innovation ability and business transformation ability through technical innovation in the data center. Further she emphsaized to integrate services to improve comprehensively the customer experiences with external IT operation services and enhance overall competitiveness of the bank. Then she introduced the overall framework design and construction progress and private clouds construction methodology. Lastly, Bank of China’s future construction prospects and implementation path was showed to us.
