3rd China Commercial Vehicle Summit, June 20th - 21st
Noppen’s 3rd China Commercial Vehicle Summit took place June 20th &21st in Wuhan which is located in China’s Hubei province. The event brought together major players to discuss the future of the Commercial Vehicle industry and China’s role in it. China possesses a whopping 50% of the world’s commercial vehicle market which has been steadily on the rise since 2010. This steady growth is ready to accelerate, and this year the Hubei province will be the new home to the biggest commercial vehicle industrial base in China. According to the “twelfth five year plan”, this industrial production will achieve 300 billion RMB.
The 3rd China Commercial Vehicle Summit which was supported by the Wuhan Municipal Government, started off with a pre-summit workshop on the 19th of June, Mr. Liu Binzhou, the Vice President of Sevalo Construction Machinery Group and the current secretary general of the Hubei Construction Machinery Chamber of Commerce was the first speaker at the pre-summit workshop. He spoke on behalf of Mr. Yang Yihua, the chairman of Sevalo, Mr. Liu informed the audience about the current status and trends of the construction machinery industry. Followed by Mr. Shao Zhiqiang, the GM of SANY Group Remanufacturing Company, who gave a presentation on sustainable development of the company, he then showed the attendees more about the current status of the construction machinery remanufacturing industry and SANY’s Remanufacturing Company achievements. Afterwards Mr. Lawrence Luo, the Regional (China) President of Volvo Construction Equipment Co Ltd shared his experiences with the audience about Volvo’s distribution strategy in China. Lawrence has more than two decades of working experience in the construction machinery industry; his accumulated experiences helped him develop his own unique insight on the current status and development trends in China and around the globe, which he expressed well to the audience. The next speaker was Mr. Bill Chen, the GM of Shantui Chutian Construction Machinery Co Ltd, whom was also the pre-summit workshop chairman; he closed the workshop by giving a presentation about Shantui and their future development plans.
The next day, the 3rd China Commercial Vehicle Summit officially began with Ms. Ni Hong the Director of the Office of New Vehicle Environmental Compliance from Vehicle Emission Control Center of State Environmental Protection Administration Researcher; she started her presentation after the chairmen (Mr. Suheyl Baybali) finished his welcome speech. Through her presentation the audience was painted a vivid picture about government policies and regulations. Following her was Mr. Li Qingsheng, the Chief Consultant from the Automotive Industry Developing Institute of China’s Automotive Technology & Research Center; he introduced the current status and future development plans for China’s Commercial Vehicle Industry. Later on in the afternoon Mr. Suheyl Baybali, the Auditing Board President of TAYSAD –Association of Automotive Parts and Components Manufacturers/Turkey, gave a presentation on Turkey: strong industry, strong brands. Through his presentation he informed everyone about the industry in Turkey.
The final day of the Summit was started by Mr. Naresh Gupta, the Chief Representative and Global Sourcing GM of Ashok Leyland Ltd-India his presentation was about the opportunities and challenges for 2020. Afterwards, Mr. Thomas Grimm, the Head of Market and Strategy Hybrid and E-Mobility from Man Truck & Bus AG, spoke on behalf of Mr. Roland Ehniss, the title of his presentation was “towards e-mobility- the future trends and key challenges in the commercial vehicle industry”. Before the luncheon Mr. Tommy Xu, the Strategy and Business Development Director from Scania China Strategic Center, joined us for the third time, his presentation was truly unforgettable, and he shared his systematic way of thinking to improve transportation efficiency.
Besides the few most influential speakers, there were other great presentations that received even better feedback. Noppen would like to recognize Dr. Kim Jong-Shik, the CEO& President of Tata Daewoo Motors Co Ltd, who was also a speaker at our last event. This time he shared his expertise and gave a presentation about the trend of commercial vehicles for the future. Mr. Hua Gang, the Minister of the Market Information Department from Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company, gave a presentation on the current and future challenges of China’s commercial vehicle industry from the enterprise side. Mr. Zuo Wuzhou the Minister of Industry Development from Hanyang Special Purpose Vehicle Institute of China Automotive Technology & Research Center, talked about the current status and future forecasting of China’s special purpose vehicle industry. Mr. Zhang Hongru the GM of Wuhan Durlan Heavy Industry Co Ltd introduced their products and its application. Mr. Zhang Guofang the VP at the School of Automotive Engineering, Wuhan University of Technology attended the summit for the second time, this time he presented export opportunities and challenges of the Commercial Vehicle Industry. Mr. Xiong Yu the Minister of the New Energy R&D Department from the Vehicle Engineering Research Institute, Dongfeng Yangtze Automobile (Wuhan) Co Ltd talked about development of hybrid power urban bus.
Innovative products and services were introduced by: Castrol, one of our gold sponsors, they sent their Regional OEM Director Mr. Sanjeev Kaul to present creating sustainable value through partnerships in the Trucking Industry. Erwin Junker Maschinenfabrik another one of our gold sponsors, arranged their Executive Manager Günter Riehle to speak about JUNKER’s high speed grinding technology. Through his introduction, the audience received a vivid image about JUNKER’s machines and core technologies that are applied to the Automotive Industry. Michelin, also a gold sponsor sent two speakers to introduce their fuel saving technologies, the two speakers were Mr. Matthieu Van Der Elst, the Director of Truck & Bus Tires Division Marketing and Ms Li Ling the Senior Manager of Truck & Bus Original Equipment. Alcoa, one of our silver sponsors made their second appearance at our conference. Ross Simmons the GM (Sales/Technical) -Asia, Australia & NZ presentation was titled the Alcoa advantage -Alcoa takes the Weight Off! Metal Improvement Company Technical Service (Suzhou) Co Ltd, a business unit of Curtiss-Wright Surface Technologies was another silver sponsor of the event. They sent their Technical Service Manager Grace Wang to represent the company and to showcase their metal surface treatment technology of fine controlling shot peening. Epicor Software (Shanghai) Co Ltd, a silver sponsor, was the only one to give an informative presentation on software. They arranged their Senior Business Solution Consultant Manager Victor Yu to share some of their experiences and to give a presentation on lean integration – Epicor ERP solution for specialty vehicles. Karcher (Shanghai) Cleaning Systems Co Ltd, our speech sponsor arranged their Light Industry Target Group Management Dept. Manager Jeff Bian to showcase their achievements on improving auto manufacturing efficiency by their advanced clean technology. Other sponsors showcased their newest products to all the delegates, which sparked conversations with leading commercial vehicle manufactures onsite. During the event there was a site tour arranged by the local government on the 19th, which took place during the afternoon of the pre-summit workshop, this gave the delegates to the actually see what’s being done. The next morning, some selected foreign delegates were allowed to join the mayor’s meeting. Also, throughout the summit there were a few onsite interviews conducted by our media partner China Auto Times.
