Financial Data Center Conference July 19th&20th Shanghai, China
On July 19th & 20th at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in Shanghai, China Noppen hosted their first Financial Data Center Conference. The data center business is developing healthily, particularly with financial institutions; there has been an increase rate of 15% per year. Statistics from 2011 show that data center product investment reached 84 billion RMB and this will double to 180 billion RMB by 2015. This unwavering growth has caused China based financial institutes to stand up and pay careful attention to their data development in order to meet the requirements of the challenging future.
Some of the most influential day-one presenters at the Financial Data Center Conference were Mr. HE Baohong, the Director of Communications Standards Research Institute, at the China Academy of Telecommunication Research of MIIT; gave us a presentation about the Situation and Policy of China’s Data Center Development. He showed government policies for the Data Center Industry as well as some market situation from China’s Academy of Telecommunication Research of MIIT. Another influential presentation was on “Personal Data Privacy - Global Issues in the Financial Industry” by Mr. Stephen LAU the President of the Hong Kong Computer Society, he emphasized how personal data protection has become a global issue. He listed some privacy laws as well as the universal personal data protection principles. Lastly, he used examples of data breaches and how to build a corporate culture protecting information and respecting privacy. Next up was, XIAO Mingyu the Data Center Project Manager at China’s Merchants Bank, whom presented on the Construction of High-availability Data Centers in the Financial Industry. During his presentation he showed us the necessities for a high availability data center, he then told us by having high standards for the design and construction, operation and maintenance are the methods to build high availability data centers. Closing out day one was Mr. YANG Xiaoping; the Senior Manager in the IT Department at the Bank of Jiangsu, he delivered a good presentation of Building a Safe Data Center. He showed the audience the current IT disaster recovery system in the financing industry in China. Then he told us his analysis and how to prevent IT operation risks. The last part of the presentation was how to build a fortress to guarantee the safe and stable running of the production center and integrated governing of IT risks.
Day two of the conference started by Mr. LI Bisheng, Director of Data Center Engineering Peoples’ Bank of China he discussed the Construction of Cabling System for Green Data Centers. He said the green process has 3 phases: production, use, and recycling. He told us the cabling system energy-saving management requires not only technical measures but also proactive management. At the end he showed the engineering practices of energy saving measures. The Overall Design Concept and Practice of smart banking system was presented by Mr. HE Tao, the Deputy Senior Manager of the IT Department at the Bank of Communications Shanghai Branch. Firstly he gave us a general introduction of the overall design concept like visualization, controllability and automation. Then he told us the overall logical framework, and for his closing he gave us the assumptions and descriptions of building smart banking systems. Another prominent speaker was Mr. XIANG Yuanwei, Assistant to Office Director of Backup Centre, China Pacific Insurance Co., Ltd. He presented on the methodology of DC Planning. China Pacific Insurance Co., Ltd is doing their own data centers so he listed the life cycle, reliability index, efficiency index, economic index, and managing index of data centers. He gave data on the configuration rating of the core system and spoke briefly about the basic methodology of data center planning and the challenges. Followed by ZHANG Hao, the GM of Operation at CFCA, he gave us a topic about IT Operations and Security Management Practices of CFCA. He introduced CFCA’s profile and then told us the formulation of operation and management strategy. During his presentations he spoke on establishing high-availability systems, key safety management and independent products services. For the conclusion he told us the importance of the combination of technical practices with managerial practices. The last influential speaker of day two was WANG Ruqing the Chief Engineer, AtHub Corporation gave us a topic about the Data Center Factory. He was one of the most interesting speakers of the two day conference. He has been involved in the application research of major computer peripheral and data center construction for more than 38 years. His presentation showed us the global market trend and the challenges to the data centers. He said the data center factory has to be green to save energy and cost. Afterwards, there was a panel discussions which was moderated by WANG Ruqing, Chief Engineer, AtHub Corporation while the panelists were CHEN Yantong, IT Manager, China Merchants Bank, HE Tao, Deputy Senior Manager of IT Department, Bank of Communications, Shanghai Branch, Shelton LIU, GM of Net Optics China, Net Optics and LI Bisheng, Director of Data Center Engineering, Peoples’ Bank of China, China Financial Computerization Corporation. The topic of the discussion was Operational Status and Future Development of China's Financial Data Center Industry
There were quite a few introductions of innovative products and services such as Mr. Shelton LIU, GM of Net Optics China, gave us a very interesting presentation of The Applications of Net Optics in the Financial Network and their appTap and its main technical characteristics. WANG Zhong, VP of New Technology, Hillstone Networks Inc gave a presentation on Hillstone Data Center Network Security Solutions in the Financial Industry. He told us the consolidation of financial data centers and ever growing security challenges. Then he gave us a brief of Hillstone solutions and success stories. At the end of his presentation he told us the advantages of Hillstone technologies like domain segregation, integrated defense virtual resources and global management. Commtech Asia discussed “What is Commissioning Management and Why Do You Need It?” by Mr. Ian WOODROOFE, the Business Development Manager. He introduced his company and then told us the definitions of commissioning, which is developing through new technologies, system reliability and energy conservation. At the end of the presentation he explained the pitfalls of the traditional approach and the benefits of the commissioning management approach. Lastly, Mr. SUN Zhe, East China Area Manager, Climaveneta delivered The Latest Green Data Center Planning in Europe introduced the CHAT Union Group in China. Their design started from optimized AC systems and air distribution to optimize the distribution system and UPS as well as the latest trend of green IDC in Europe. He showed us new green technologies of free cooling and gave some examples of their worldwide projects.
