WUHAN, CHINA, 20-21 JANUARY 2011 – China is currently expanding their commercial vehicle presence not only domestically, but across the world. Noticing the growing market, international companies are racing to enter and start up joint ventures with established Chinese manufacturers. These established Chinese companies are looking to expand abroad and the new joint ventures are currently seeking international partners to help construct safe and reliable vehicles for both the domestic Chinese and the international market.
The China Commercial Vehicle Summit was hosted by the People's Government of Wuhan Municipality and organized by Wuhan Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, the Management Committee of Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone, and Noppen. Held on the 20-21 January 2011 in Wuhan, China, the event was attended by over 130 senior officials, presidents, directors, and technical directors from government bodies, industry associations, automobile investors, manufacturers and solution providers.
Welcome address at the summit came from the Vice Mayor of Wuhan, Shao Weimin and opening speech from Dang Zhen, Vice Director, Wuhan Economic & Information Commission who gave an overview of Wuhan's Automobile Industry development. Wang Ming, Deputy Director, Institute of Comprehensive Transportation of National Development and Reform Commission discussed logistics and cargo transport trends during the 12th Five-year Plan period, and the requirements of transport and logistics development for commercial vehicle development. The Institute of Comprehensive Transportation provides the government department with their research, information and solutions which may influence decision makers."Very good! Prominent speakers at the event included Miguel Angel Ferrer, Vice President & Chief Information Officer, Volvo Construction Equipment China Co Ltd. He spoke about construction equipment and Volvo construction in China, taking into consideration the reliability and quality of products made in China. Tommy Xu, Director, Strategy and Business Development, Scania China Strategic Center discussed reducing the carbon footprint of EU CV manufacturers. He talked about customer demands, the application of new technology, Scania's driver training, vehicle efficiency, Scania's Fleet Management, etc. International commercial vehicle development and cooperation was a big focus of the event. Guo Konghui an Academician, Chinese Academy of Engineering; and Deputy Chairman, Society of Automotive Engineers of China opened the event on day two. His topic was industrial and development trends of commercial vehicles. As a famous academician in the automobile sector in China, his presentation was welcomed and respected by the delegates. From Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle Company, one of leading and largest CV companies in China, Liu Guoyuan, Senior General Manager, Product Planning Division, gave an overview of the development environment of Chinese M&HDT and DFCV strategies. He also described trends in the road transportation industry and how Dongfeng want to provide customers with world-class quality at a Chinese price level. There were many technology updates revealed at the event. Zhang Xiaoqiang from Georg Fischer Automotive conveyed their lightweight chassis for safety cast components. The material parameters determined by GF Automotive provide the basis for virtual development and carry the philosophy of lightweight construction. "The meeting was both superb and meaningful" CNGC China North Engine Research Institute Andreas Haseloff, Project Manager, and Peng Zhenjun General Manager, South China Sales both from Voith Turbo Power Transmission (Shanghai) Co Ltd made a joint presentation on endurance braking systems - Hydraulic Retarders VS Engine Brakes, EMR. From Cummins East Asia Research & Development Co Ltd, General Manager, Jiang Qiqing discussed energy saving technologies for HD diesel engines. Cummins is a well-known American engine company. Additionally Henkel, Technical Manager, Professor Wang Dongchuan spoke about Henkel's "Engineering Service Technology and Application in Commercial Vehicles"
On day one a government meeting was held by Wuhan Municipal Government where the Vice Mayor, Shao Weimin, gave a quick brief on industry in Wuhan and select attending delegates got to introduce their companies. The meeting was also attended by Dang Zhen, Vice Director, and Li Linqing, Head of Vehicle Department, Wuhan Economic & Information Commission. "Very good organization" HJS Emission Technology GmbH & Co. Later there was an Investment Promotion Event organized by the Management Committee of Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone. Over 120 delegates got to attend the site tour to Auto-City and to Shanghai GKN Drive Shaft Co., Ltd. (SDS, Wuhan Plant). The tour was given by Li Lin, Chief Engineer of Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone. Afterwards a dinner was held, also hosted by the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone. Other notable speakers included Zhang Guofang, Vice President, Automobile Engineering School, Wuhan University of Technology who presented on commercial vehicle development and the future outlook; Wang Jianping, China North Engine Research Institute, CNGC spoke about efficient energy saving diesel engine technology; and Wang Huanmin, President, Hanyang Special Purpose Vehicle Institute covered "China Special Purpose Vehicle Industrial Development and Future Prospects".
